Notes and thoughts:

  • CBS has announced two doubleheader weekends:

    • Oct 9th – 3:30pm/8:00pm

    • Oct 16th – noon/3:30pm

  • The hardest game to schedule is the Arky game. There is no marquee matchup that weekend, save Auburn at LSU, if you can call that marquee this season.  Ole Miss at Alabama gets my nod for the CBS game that week - with the Auburn at LSU getting a night ESPN/SEC Network slot.  UGA could be the alternate night game from the Auburn/LSU game, but I just guessed ESPN at noon makes more sense (The graphic says Arkansas at 7:30. Noon is more educated guess though).

  • The trip to Tennessee is a wild guess. That week has nothing compelling, with two of the projected top five teams playing G5 or below (Alabama and Florida).  That game could be a night game. If Tennessee shows any sign of life, that could be the CBS game, but I’m not counting on that, obviously.

  • Charleston Southern could be any kickoff slot but 3:30. It’ll definitely be on SEC Network.

  • Auburn is pretty close to being a mortal lock 3:30 CBS kickoff, with Alabama at Texas A&M the 8pm CBS game. I suppose that could change depending on game outcomes before then, but it is likely those.

  • The ACC has control over the Georgia Tech game. The good news is the other ACC vs SEC matchups on 11/30 (Clemson-South Carolina, UK-Louisville, FSU-Florida) are all at SEC stadiums, meaning there are fewer potential marquee teams/matchups in their inventory. The better news is the ACC Network opens up more decent kickoff windows than having to count on ESPN/regional sports nets to find a place to stash a game. The bad news is Tech is likely going to be A Very Bad Football Team®, so unless the networks go for some morbid seal clubbing style rating grab, I’m sticking with noon for now. Yes, this is a direct cut and paste from the 2019 post.
